Erica Swinney - Owner
Family Nurse Practitioner - Board Certified
Functional Medicine Practitioner
Biofeedback Certified
My name is Erica Swinney. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with certifications in Functional Medicine, Quantum Biofeedback and CyroTshock therapy. I worked in ICU for 20 years then decided to become a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2015. Within a year of working as a Nurse Practitioner I became very concerned about the amount of chronic illness I was trying to treat. So many people were suffering and not getting better! I knew deep down inside there had to be a better way. I kept wondering what was causing such a wide range of health issues and why was so few people were able to feel better. I then found Functional Medicine -- which is the study of finding the root cause of illness. I realized that without knowing the cause how can you possibly find a cure. I have helped so many people get their energy and smile back along with coming off of some or all of their prescription medications. I can run specialized testing specifically for your current health issues. I review all testing results with you and provide you with a comprehensive approach to achieving wellness again. I use food as your medicine and I give great tips and programs that really work in helping your body heal itself.
A little about myself -- I have two daughters and I have lived in New Albany, Indiana my entire life. In 2013, (at the age of 40) I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. It was a devastating diagnosis. I did surgery to remove the tumor but I declined chemo, radiation and pharmaceuticals. I realized early on that there had to be a better way to heal my body. I then watched a documentary called “The Truth About Cancer”. It opened my eyes to all the thousands of natural healing modalities that people have been using to heal themselves from all types of diseases for hundreds of years. And so, my journey began …... I followed my heart down the holistic approach to healing my body. I’m very happy to say that I have been in remission without chemo, radiation and pharmaceuticals for the last 7 years and I am in the best health of my life! I have developed a very deep understanding of what it's like to be a patient and at the mercy of the healthcare system. At that time, I vowed I would give everyone I met the kindness, compassion and guidance they would need to heal themselves without the bureaucracy of the healthcare system. I pride myself in being able to offer prescription medication when needed and/or natural approaches too so that you can decide what is right for you.
Kayla A. H. Barnett
Family Nurse Practitioner- Board Certified
Hi! My name is Kayla, I am a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2014, I graduated from Spalding University with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree. I began my nursing career in July of 2014 at Clark Memorial Hospital as a Critical Care Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. After working there, for about a year, I decided I wanted to further develop my critical care skills and challenge myself. I decided to leave Clark Memorial Hospital and pursue a position as an Open-Heart Recovery Nurse with Norton Healthcare. I found working as an Open-Heart Recovery/ Intensive Care Unit Nurse very rewarding. During my three years in this position, I learned an immense amount of information that I continue to apply in my clinical practice today.
At the end of 2018 I had decided it was time return to school to fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse practitioner. In September of 2018, I became a perioperative nurse for Norton Healthcare. After getting settled in my new position I began my Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner program at Northern Kentucky University. During my three and a half years of schooling I had opportunities to see and treat patients of all ages in a family practice setting, obstetrics and gynecology office, and a pediatric neurology office.
In August of 2022 I graduated from Northern Kentucky University with my Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner Degree. Then in November 2022 I became a board certified FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners certification Board (AANPCB). Since becoming certified I have obtained my Kentucky and Indiana Advanced Practice Nursing licenses.
Prior to graduation I began looking at nurse practitioner positions available in Kentucky and Indiana. I knew that I wanted to make a difference as a practitioner and to have the autonomy to treat patients in a welcoming and holistic manner. Therefore, the goal was to continue looking for a position that fit a practice model very different than most conventional medicine practices today.
I have found that autonomy at Holistic Family Medicine Practice and Healing Center. After many years working in many different areas of western/conventional medicine I have found that a “band-aid “approach is the most common treatment. If we continue with the “quick service”, diagnosis, and a pill for every ailment model then as a society will continue to decline and become or remain chronically ill. I personally want to stop the cycle of just prescribing a pill for anything and everything. We will work together to evaluate the root cause and develop a reasonable and personalized plan that is tailored to every individual and their needs. This can include prescription medications, herbal remedies, diet changes, and other healing modalities.
I strive to make my patients feel heard and want them to know that I will take the time to listen and understand their problems and needs. Once a thorough discussion, assessment, and work-up (if-needed) is performed we will move on to the treatment plan. Each and every patient deserves a tailored treatment plan to their specific problem and history. This will help eliminate the one size fits all approach to medicine and allow for true healing and understanding when it comes to your health.
A little bit about me! I was born and raised on the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky. I have been married since 2014 to my husband Ryan and together we have 4 beautiful children and 2 dogs! Our kids are 6 and under so we are very busy and always on the go! We love spending time with our extended families, playing outside, going to parks, sporting events, and movie nights! We are also in the process of fixing up an 1800s Farmhouse on 15 acres to make into our forever home. We have plans for a large garden filled with nourishing vegetables, fruits, and herbs and fields filled with cows, horses, goats, and pigs!

Spiritual mentor
CYT-200
In 2008, I earned a B.S. in Sociology and Psychology. Following a decade-long tenure as a business director at a non-profit organization, I transitioned to the field of Energy Healing arts in 2011. This journey began with a certification in yoga and Reiki, and complemented by a two-year apprenticeship as an Energy Medicine Practitioner in Crestwood, KY under Wendy Schoeppner of SoulWorks, LLC. I firmly believe that the most effective healers are those who’ve had to heal themselves first. In 2015, I experienced a sudden and prolonged illness, remaining unimproved for three years due to undiagnosed Lyme disease. It wasn't until I met my Energy Medicine mentor in 2018 that I received a proper diagnosis and achieved full recovery in a mere 3 months. This personal healing journey profoundly changed my life and propelled me to dedicate my life to a deeper understanding and connection with Energy Medicine. In 2020, I established my own healing enterprise, Gaia Heals, LLC. The primary objective of this platform is to actively engage with the community, fostering authentic healing that addresses the underlying energetic causes of physical ailments, mental health issues, and a sense of purposelessness. I advocate that our physical symptoms serve as vital messages from the body, signaling unseen and suppressed traumas, emotions, and core beliefs. Our current culture tends to overlook these deeper issues, opting for quick fixes that merely mask underlying pain. Energy Medicine, on the other hand, efficiently uncovers the root causes of our ailments.
